Lines, shapes and textures

This week's assignment was to find three pictures (each) that focus on line, shape and texture. Here they are:

Digital design: Playing with shapes

As part of my Digital Design and Usability class, I will be keeping a blog documenting weekly assignments. The first one focuses on playing around with shapes. I extracted 5 shapes from this beautiful creek landscape (taken by my boyfriend in Colorado I believe) and arranged them in 6 compositions that depict different emotions.

Anger

Busyness

Growth

Intimacy

Loneliness

Serenity

Final challenge: Model on the runway

"Slaving" is a very accurate word to describe what I put myself through to finish the final project for my graphic design class. I spent hours and hours and hours perfecting every little detail. It was painful for a week but seems to be worth it in the end. Here is the final product, 12x17, nicely printed & mounted on a foam core yesterday for only $10.50 (thanks to Printing Services, one of the more efficient offices on campus in my humble opinion).

What I did to get here:
- Build the catwalk & background walls.
- Take the main model and shave off her dress, reconstruct the lower right arm that was blocked.
- Smooth out her face and bring out her eyes (the original was lower in resolution)
- Draw the tights.
- Find the booties and carefully put them on her.
- Construct the dress out of newspaper print.
- Steal the background model from shutterstock, erase the watermark, and blur her.
- Take the audience from another runway photo, carve them out with a soft eraser & blur the edges.
- Put a lot of shading around the side areas.
- Put the necklace on the model.
- Construct the gloves out of black lace pattern.
A lot of time was wasted creating another pair of boots and unsuccessfully trying to give her a leather or fur jacket.

What's your motto? Tombstone challenge

I'm taking Graphics Design (using Photoshop) this semester with Prof. Barry Burns. He's a very cool instructor who greatly resembles Tim Gunn with his silver hair, neat dressing style and witty attitude.

Early on in the semester I kind of freaked out because my skills were so inferior to those of other people in the class. I made things that look extremely immature and unrealistic. However, I did learn a lot class after class. Finally something struck me and I started to get the hang of it.

Not only was I happy about my improvement, I was also proud when my tombstone got in the top 6 of the class. We were supposed to build our own tombstone and carve on it our life motto. Eight weeks ago, I would never imagine that this could happen. But here it is.
